Description
Victory ships were commissioned by the U.S. as cargo shops to replace cargo ships lost to German U-boats. Built in 1945 the SS American Victory is one of only four WWII merchant ships still in operation. While it saw limited action at the end of that war, it served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Today it is anchored in Tampa, Florida and serves as a museum and training facility. It is open to the public and offers a glimpse of the past to visitors.
This lifeboat is no longer seaworthy as there are holes in the hull. It serves as a fitting memory of the passage of time.
